Subject:J-Child, Out
Time:1:53 am.
Well, as promised, friends, after a long hiatus--a Fallow Year, as Seamus suggested I call it--I've returned to this journal for a time...an extremely brief time, to say a final farewell. Out of respect for what this journal was, is, and will always be, and...in a bit of copycatting of Seamus' actions, I'm going to start posting again, but elsewhere. From here on out, you can find me at justjamal. It's been an interesting run, folks, to say the least, but it's time to shed a pseudonym or two.

DORKS!!!

Y'all take care,
Jamal/J/J-Child

...David

Subject:Seamus, signing off.
Time:12:26 am.
It's been fun, and sometimes it hasn't, but it was authentic if anything else.
I really enjoyed UCF and Orlando, and all the things it afforded me, all the people I got to help, all those who helped me. I owe it to everyone to have made more of a formal departure; it just wasn't in me to stick around town much longer. Sometime this summer, when there's time for most all, there will be a chance to say "hey" one last time.

Until then, and beyond, enjoy all that you can. I've moved to justseamus, and my hopes are that it'll be updated fairly regularly, as this is ultimately a journal in whatever form. It's nice to see where you came from, and in turn where you're going.

Peace, and take care of yourselves-
Seamus O'Malley / Matt Shannon

Subject:Last Orlando Update?
Time:2:39 pm.
Most of the move is going to be Thursday. If I have any of yer crap, let me know.
For those of you who don't already know, the going-away party is being postponed until I could actually be there. My sister has been in Fort Lauderdale since Friday, and I've been here with them just as long; my dad flew out Saturday morning affording us a higher quality of time spent together.

Bonnie and I just got letters from SGA for Who's Who. Hot damn. As in any case, I can really use that money.

A very big, most likely final (for this journal, at least) update is to follow within the next 10 days.

Subject:Much less than a month left
Time:2:58 pm.
The computer should be arriving later today. Tablet and software are already in-hand. The "last meals" have already begun, and even in this late time, odd truths are still coming to light. I'm going to a Kappa Alpha Theta formal this Saturday, in addition to dive certification. Going to clean the house and room, then clean the car, and then the garage. Between the air regulator and the closet, there's going to be a lot of purging in the next few days. I hope Carisa comes to get her couch soon.

Subject:Ozzy came to me in a dream.
Time:10:17 am.
Bonnie was there, beforehand. She was trying to tell me about something, but Ozzy was busy tilling a nearby field in a tractor, blasting "Hellraiser" and in process of literally sewing the seeds of destruction. Hellraise began to permeate the air, and Ozzy emerged from the tractor, ran back to a shed, donned massive tinfoil helmet that made him look like some weird space phallus, grabbed a two-pronged trident, and attacked a spot of land near the tractor. He let loose his weapon, and then fell on the area. Afterword, he stood up and "Symptom of the Universe" began emanating from his chest, and as he ran back to attack a completely uninteresting pile of dirt, my former boss Bill Ferrante walks up as we both try and get our camera phones ready to take some action shots of this nonsense. Ozzy sees us, and walks over to throw candy at us, from a distance of about eight feet. He gives us those big size Reese's Pieces, and then Milky Ways, and then those asian jelly candies that come in the little cups. He actually had a small cardboard box with atomic fireballs, more of the jelly candies, and a few other things, but his arms were tired from all of the running and trident throwing.
I wanted to bond with him, so I offered to eat some jellies. I said, "they feel like you're eating eyes!" - Ozzy stopped and thought for a moment about this, and replied, "I don't actually like eyes. That's ok, thanks though. Help me give the candy to everyone else, I don't need candy. I only need metal"

So, as I pick up a bucket of atomic fireballs, some lemonheads, and a handful of candies, I noticed officer ... officer guy whose name eludes me this very moment but used to date Megan so I stay away from him is giving me a ticket, and I drop the candy trying to show him I am making effective use of the loading/unloading area I'm parked in, but he shows me a list of infractions ranging from exprired tag to outstanding tickets to inoperative turning lamps and then I wake up from my dream.

I’m living on an endless road
Around the world for rock and roll
Sometimes it feels so tough
But I still ain’t had enough
I keep saying that it’s getting too much
But I know I’m a liar
Feeling all right in the noise and the light
But that’s what lights my fire

Hellraiser!

Now, if someone has some non-fuzzy pictures of Rollins, please send them to mailmatt@gmail.com

Recently, I really would have settled for a good photographer over a girlfriend. Alas, that is not the case.

Thanks for showing up.

Subject:Spatial Thought Processes
Time:12:38 am.
The subject of this entry refers to an internal process I've had for years, but it fades in and out. When brainstorming, or playing with Lego, or when I'm really engaged in sports, I get to that level of thinking where thoughts appears as rather elaborate shapes. I often draw what I see on the margins of my notes, but it's been a while since I've had them as vivid as they've been recently. Does anyone else have these times?

Here's an example of one.
Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Usually there's several hundred flying through, and they're all translucent, like lexan; a bit of thickness. Sometimes they lock in place and things keep moving. OH YEAH- there's no thoughts directly associated with them that I'm aware of, but when I have to brainstorm for a while, or am thinking about something, I'll look at it and this flashes through for a while and a whole bunch of words fly through, kind of like when John Cusack guesses the name of Catherine Keener's character 'Maxine' in Being John Malkovich

So whatever the case, it's been happening a whole lot lately, and the creative juices, so to speak, have been flowing utmost as of late. I probably completed 6 weeks of effort from my parents at the house this week, and I'm not mentally tired, but my body is showing the effects of too much wear and tear. Should have gone with Nicole to get a pedicure, but alas made no time for myself.

Speaking of those creative juices, I am going to be one of the top landscape architects and voices on environment design in 10-20 years, I guarantee it. At night, I've been eating books and research whole, and in the day I let my mind play with what is at hand. I am going to eat this program ALIVE.

I explained the tree of Ryoanji to my man Luis LDQ on St. Patrick's day - an image revealed that's perceived but not seen. You see, Ryoanji has 5 groups of 3 stones each, and you can never see more than 14 at any given time. You achieve Zen when you perceive the 15th stone, but that is perhaps ancillary to the key meditative revelation of the garden. As stated here-

I explained this with some corned beef fibers and pieces of cabbage. Imagine the stones are set in a field of wheat, and suddenly the stones turn to fire. Where the growing circle of fire grow into each other, that's where the lines would be. It's basically the most common intersection groups based on the number of stones within range - you can figure it out.

This is but one method; fractal regressions are now commonplace, as well as the already ubiquitous use of Φ (the golden ratio) are simply coming to light. It's something else. It's one thing to ape a current style, another thing to understand it, and yet another to appreciate it and move on to something else, using it as if it were as common as Archimede's Principle of displacement or any other really big/really small breakthrough. I hope to do that last one.

Anyway, I am going to Gainesville to meet up with qtandrea65 to make some final checks on housing arrangements, as she is possibly a roomate in this whole ordeal. That will be Thursday and Friday, and back in South Florida for Easter weekend with parents. Hoo-rah. Night.

Subject:I never update with any sembelance of order nowadays.
Time:1:56 am.
Well, in South Florida for the week. Happy St. Patrick's day and may it find you delirious with the displaced blood of the Irish. I know it will for me, I've got about two pounds of brisket with my name on it being slow-cooked this very moment. A keg of Guiness, as well. ("A keg of Guiness? I've never even heard of such a thing; that's like saying, 'come to the feast, we're having Unicorn!'" - pikake) That's neither here nor there, however, because tonight's post is about the future.

While I have been patently unable to do much more than curl into a ball or other variations of the fetal position up until recently, such adverse times do not merit postin'. I've been down before, you've been down before - we've all been down before. Sometimes people are much, much, much further down than they'd ever want to be seen, so they go and hide.
But that's the past- In May, I will be in a new house, with new roomates, in a new field... (old car, clothes, and taste in food will be retained, however.) There are few things better appreciated right now than departure from the rails of monotony, where every mountain has been climbed to the point of erosion, and the general challenges of everyday life are more formidable than the pursuit of brain science or political office.

The Landscape Architecture program allows me to indulge my background in cognitive science by focusing on the affects of Visual Preference, spatial cognition, pattern recognition, and subconscious computing. Did you somehow know/feel that rock garden you're looking at is the logarithmic extrapolation of a fern branch? Does the clear air entering your lungs allow you expedited cognitive processes? Science is already cracking some of the oldest garden's mysteries, but it's now up to the those who can interpret the forecoming data and research into a way that may allow for the synthesis of new ideas. There can be another Ryoanji, we can model our environments in a way conducive to powerful new thought.

Furthermore, the immediate considerations of the water crisis must be considered. I can put theory to practice here, selling responsible landscape concepts to the planners of tomorrow. I'm a good talker, and I'm confident that I will become an authority on this topic in due time, a topic we might not all need to understand, but do need to appreciate. Landscapes occur any time sky and earth meet- it's not always about what's pleasing to the eye. Greywater research and green fertilizer are fields we already rely on today, but have yet to explore beyond limited application. As the pressure to adapt increases, so will our need to embrace restorative systems.

That's what I'm excited about right now folks, not new jobs, not having Henry Rollins, not concerning myself with what odd greeting Melanie will respond positively to or what anime Nicole is buying. I'm at peace with myself for a brief moment, and I'm going to enjoy it before I cock my legs back to go sprinting off into the world of several weeks from now. Perhaps, this post was really about the present after all.

Time:2:49 am.
Know any real sweet places to live up in G-ville? Most likely moving there in May, and don't have too much time to fool around with going back and forth finding places. I mean like, specific references, as in, "my brother has a house off of Archer, he's looking for 300 + utilities"

cool.
